Fragility Becomes Resilience

*|FNAME|*, Like all the new Bijou Noir songs, "I Turned Into a River" was written on a ukulele before being arranged into a full indie pop production. Here, the ukulele takes a more prominent role. The inherent fragility and vulnerability of the instrument highlight the heartfelt and vulnerable themes of the song, as the listener is slowly carried towards a surging conclusion.

"I Turned Into a River" finds Bijou Noir's Augustus Watkins examining troublesome interpersonal relationships. This is for anyone who's ever experienced the pain that comes with new growth.

If you caught Bijou Noir during COVID-20, Sanctuary Festival, or another livestream event, now is your chance to hear "I Turned Into a River" in its completed form.

Artist's Statement for "I Turned Into a River"

It’s February and sunny and there’s palm trees knocking gently against the window, blown by the invisible wind. I’m thinking of someone who’s no longer in my life.

The fact that I miss our friendship astounds me, after what he did. I’m grateful for much of our friendship, and ashamed that I didn’t understand his nature more fully. I shouldn’t have stood by and allowed myself to be complicit in the behavior towards others. I should have seen it coming before that rage turned against me.

I’ll never let someone in my life who treats me the way that person did. I still miss him. And I don’t know what’s worse.
