Bijou Noir unveils visceral new single "Cuckoo Bird" – an alt pop song with a personal twist  Bijou Noir, the brainchild of prolific songwriter Augustus Watkins, announces the release of their latest single, "Cuckoo Bird," a visceral alternative pop singe that delves into the intricacies of infidelity and its emotional aftermath. With its propulsive bass line, stirring orchestral elements, and a groove that makes it impossible to sit still, the song is a cathartic testament to resilience in the face of betrayal.   The musical heartbeat of "Cuckoo Bird" is a propulsive bass line played live on a Bechstein concert grand piano, setting the stage for an irresistible groove that takes center stage when the massive Phil Collins-esque drums kick in. Meanwhile, searing and inventive lyricism tell a sordid narrative of duplicity, and requital.   The song — equal parts Nick Cave and The Killers — was captured at EastWest Studios in Studio One, a historical Hollywood space which has hosted the likes of Elvis, Sinatra, U2, Tool, Michael Jackson, and countless others. I didn’t want to write this song. The outro says it best: “I thought I was done writing break-up songs.” I didn’t mean to write it, either. I had an entirely different vision of the song I was intending to write that day, but then these words flew out of me. I have been experimenting with writing narrative songs for a while now. This narrative is one I didn’t want to have to share, but I had to. "Despite the painful genesis of this song, there is plenty to be grateful for throughout the process of creating it. We tracked this in EastWest Studios in LA in Studio One, a room where so many greats have worked — including some of my favorite singers. It was an honor to perform in such a storied and legendary space. You can feel the talent and the history when you walk in.
