Both punishing and pensive: Dark Ice Days from EbE404

Dark Ice Days, the second long-play from post-industrial artist EbE404 is an exploration of spectrums and shifts, continuums and changes, pushing their progressive industrial sound in new and unexpected directions. Incorporating elements of techno, industrial metal, and dub with experimental sound design, the record explores contrasts and contradictions in a sprawling yet accessible collection of instrumental works.

Making much heavier use of melodic and rhythmic structures here than on previous efforts — which landed them spots on multiple best-of 2022 lists — Dark Ice Days alternates wildly across sonic extremes. Oscillating between punishing and pensive, maximalist and minimalist, ennui and euphoria, Dark Ice Days is a reflection on alternate paths and transitions.

Artist Statement

“The intention was to create a narrative of contrasts and dynamics. Part of that was allowing a different cohort of influences through the door to shape the music and production. Invoking those subconscious collaborators has a wonderful way of bringing out buried ideas, both dark and light. We all are different people depending on the time and place, and this album is a reflection of the different people we present ourselves as while we move through our worlds.” -EbE404
